President Iohannis has approved the prosecution of four ex-ministers Mihai Tănăsescu, Dan Ioan Popescu, Sebastian Vlădescu și Gheorghe Pogea, in file Rompetrol II.

Prosecutors from DIICOT ( Direction of Investigation of Organized Crimes and Terrorism) said that “in September- October 2003, the minister Mihai Tănăsescu and the minister of Economy and Trade, Dan Ioan Popescu fulfilled their work duties in bad faith by making a deal with Dan Costache Patriciu, George Philip Stephenson and Alexandru Nicolcioiu, in which remaining budgetary debts of SC Rompetrol Rafinare SA, from September 30, 2003, amounting dollars 603,000,000  were converted in bonds subscribed by the Minister of Pubic Finance”. Rompetrol was privatized and was owned by Dinu Patriciu.

Regarding Dan Ioan Popescu, the DIICOT claims that he continued to support the organized criminal group formed by Popescu, “by testifying behind International Center of  Disputes Regulations Relative to Investments (CSID) in favour of Rompetrol Group, declaration in which he made false affirmations”.

Also,  Sebastian Vlădescu, the minister in the period August 22, 2005- April 5, 2007, December 23, 2009- October 3, 2010, as well as Gheorghe Pogea, minister of Public Finance in the period December 22, 2008- December 23, 2009, “in bad faith did not respect the laws according to which the bonds will be registered at the Movable Goods Evidence Office for bonds transaction on regulated markets in the conditions approved by the regulation of Movable Goods Evidence Office.”
