Police official: Alexander Adamescu to be extradited to Romania

The head of Romanian Police General Inspectorate, Bogdan Despescu, confirmed that the son of Dan Adamescu, Alexander Adamescu is in the custody of the London Police and the procedure of extradition to Romania will follow, according to Agerpres.  

“He was found by the police from London last evening. It is an activity that was realized due to an exchange of data and information with Romanian Police, Anti-corruption National Office and British authorities. At this moment he is in in the custody of London Police and the procedure of extradition to Romania will follow and will be presented behind the Court”, said Despescu.

He added that it is a common procedure and the authorities from UK will approve the extradition request.

According to the DNA, in June and December 2013, Adamescu, together with his father, remitted through intermediaries the amounts of EUR 15,000 and RON 23,000  to two judges from the Court of Bucharest- section VII civil in order for them to provide, in the files regarding the insolvency procedures, favorable solutions to one of the firms where Dan Adamescu was shareholder.

Alexander Adamescu is the eldest son of controversial Romanian businessman Dan Adamescu, owner of a business empire that includes real estate assets such as Unirea Shopping Center in Bucharest and Rex Hotel in Black Sea resort Mamaia, newspaper Romania Libera and insurance company Astra Asigurari. According to Forbes Romania, in 2015 his fortune was estimated at EUR 550 million.
