PM Tudose: the street protests show us that we must continue

Romanian PM Mihai Tudose stated on Monday that the mass protests that saw thousands take to the streets on Sunday showed him the government must continue to implement the measures it took, which must be explained by the Ministry of Finance, Ionut Misa, “better and more often.”

“What I understood from what I saw on the street (…) is that we must continue. I had a talk with the Minister of Finance to explain better, more often what is happening – that the salaries of those in the private sector are not decreasing, and even less so those in the private sector, with few exceptions – those who had (…) huge salaries. This is how the wage law is. Let’s do a bit of social justice,

because someone can’t be working for the state and have a wage three-times that of the president,” Tudose told Agerpres on Monday.

“Did we have 45,000 people in the street?,” Tudose said. “The justice laws are in the Parliament, so I, representing the Government, am not accountable, and in what regards the amendments to the Tax Code, they are set on their course, are in Parliament. (…) I also watched TV last evening. I assumer we watched the same things. I did not see any of those big hands having anything to do with taxation,” Tudose said.
