In an answer to a statement by Social Democratic Party (PSD) head Liviu Dragnea, PM Dacian Ciolos said on Thursday that the Government did not amend the Tax code via Government decision, instead it “clarified things.”
The PM told Adevarul the Government will amend via government ordinance the Tax code, so that the wives of veterans will be again exempted from paying tax.
“The Government did not change anything via Government decision, but it clarified things included in the Tax code. As we did many times, we are solving the problems that occur, problems we did not create. We will amend the Tax code designed and promoted by the previous Government and will correct this injustice caused to veterans and to their families. Things are clear from our point of view. The mistake is in the Tax code where, from this point of view, the choice of words is ambiguous, unlike the text in the previous Tax code, where things were clear in regard to veterans and widows of veterans.
“The problem stems from there, from the fact that some provisions in the old Tax code have not been transposed into the new one, with a wording that is as clear. We couldn’t have modified the provisions of the Code via Government Decision,” PM Dacian Ciolos stated.
In a August 10 interview, Liviu Dragnea told Adevarul that the Ciolos government “illegally” amended the Tax code, by “trampling on the Constitution.”
