Two paintings by Romanian artist Adrian Ghenie were sold last night in London during an auction organized by Christie’s.
The painting Pie Fight Study was sold for USD 519,350, while the auction house estimated a sale price in the USD 366,000 – USD 611,000 band. It was painted in 2014.
The Hunter (Study for Kaiser Wilhelm Institute), pained by Ghenie in 2011, was auctioned for USD 2.2 million. The price estimate of Christie’s was between USD 611,000 – USD 855,400.
Both paintings were sold during the Post War & Contemporary Art Evening Auction
Last year, Christie’s sold a painting by Ghenie for USD 9 million called Nickelodeon. It was pained in 2008 and had an initial price estimate between USD 1.2 million and USD 1.9 million.
