The number of mandatory insurances for houses dropped by 2.29 percent to 1.67 million in May compared with May 2016, according to the statistics of Pool of Insurances Against Natural Disasters (PAID).
At the end of 2016, there were 1.70 million PAID policies, while on December 31 2015 there were 1.59 million insurance policies of this kind in place.
According to PAID, at the end of May, 75.8 percent of the active policies at national level were closed in urban area and 24.2 percent in rural area, according to the house type, 93.1 percent of the PAD policies regard the A type policies and 6.9 percent of the B type houses.
Most of the active policies were active in Transilvania (20 percent), Bucharest (19 percent) and Muntenia (18 percent) and the lowest in Maramures ( 3 percent) and Bucovina (3 percent).
PAID issues mandatory housing insurances since July 2010. The main objective of PAID is the insurance for the three main natural disasters risks: earthquakes, floods and landslides.
The houses insurance policies (PAD) cost EUR 20 for A type houses and EUR 10 for B type houses.
