New minimum wage increase to be discussed in government meeting today

The agenda for Friday’s government meeting includes the draft decision on the establishment of the new minimum wage.

According to the project, the country’s gross minimum wage would rise from RON 1.900 to RON 2.080, from January 1, which represents a 9.47 percent increase.

For those with higher education of at least one year’s duration, a minimum salary of RON 2,350 per month will be set, which represents an increase of 23.6 percent compared to December 2018.

However, as BR announced yesterday, the government is dropping the plan to also pay the higher version of the minimum wage to workers with a minimum of 15 years’ experience, as was the original announcement related to the differentiated minimum wage.

The government is also discussing the draft of the emergency ordinance to freeze holiday bonuses and other allowances granted to public sector workers.
