Most Romanians consumed less this year or went for cheaper products.

A large part of Romanians living in large cities (76.2 percent) are affected mainly by the increase in prices, according to a survey by MEDNET Marketing Research Center.

The survey shows that recession is making its presence felt in the Romanians’ lives as 47.6 percent of respondents said they were very affected by the crisis, which is more than last year (36.4 percent).

Thus, Romanians consumers are affected by the growth in prices (76.2 percent), the cut in the salary (47.5 percent), losing their job (17.4 percent), losing their bonuses (14.4 percent), increased rates for loans due to currency depreciation (14.4 percent).

Only a small part of Romanians (22.8 percent) kept their consumption behavior while the rest (76.6 percent) have either reduced their consumption or resorted to cheaper products. Thus, 45 percent bought the same products they used to but in smaller quantities, 11.8 percent bought cheaper products but in the same quantity, while 19.8 percent bought cheaper products and in smaller quantities as well.
