Mobile internet traffic doubled in Orange Romania’s network in Q1 2016

Telecom operator Orange Romania posted revenues of EUR 235.5 million in the first quarter of the year ended March 31, up by 6.5 percent compared to the similar period last year. 

Orange Romania had a customer base of 10,009,000 customers at the end of March- 48.2 percent were postpay customers and 51.8 percent were prepay card users.

At the end of the first quarter, 294,000 subscribers were using the Orange TV service, with a 54.5 percent growth compared to the similar period of last year.

The Orange TV Go application was downloaded and updated 1.8 million times, 11 percent more compared to the end of 2015.

Mobile internet traffic doubled compared to Q1, 2015, while 4G data traffic increased four times during this period, also due to the double sale of tablets compared to the same period of last year. Over 60 percent of customers opted for a 4G tablet. 

The number of Orange customers who are now using the Apel 4G service increased by 76 percent compared to the daily average during Q1, 2015.

 

In the first quarter of the year, Orange Romania sold 30 percent more smartphones than during the same period of last year, which means that the average number of customers who prefer to acquire smartphones has increased from half to more than 75 percent in 2016.

As far as the weight of 4G calls in the total of smartphones sold at the end of the first quarter, 75 percent were 4G compatible devices, compared to Q1, 2015, when only half of the sold smartphones were 4G compatible.

At the moment, the Orange network offers 4G mobile internet access to 72.1 percent of the total population and 96.2 percent of the urban population in Romania.

The company covers 13 Romanian cities with 4G. In March, Orange Romania launched the triple carrier demo for download speeds of up to 375 Mbps, in 4 smart stores in Bucharest, Iasi and Cluj.
