Romanian writer Mircea Cartarescu and poet Ana Blandiana will promote Romanian literature at the International Book Fair in Guadalajara, Mexico, the most important event of its type in South America. The fair is held 25 November – 3 December.

Over 100 titles translated from Romanian into Spanish will be available for sale at the Romanian stand, which will be managed, for the second time in a row, by the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR), via its Madrid branch and the National Book Centre in collaboration with the Embassy of Romania in Mexico.

The fair, held between 25 November – 3 December, is the second largest in the world in terms of the number of books on offer after that held in Frankfurt and the second in terms of number of visitors, after that held in Buenos Aires.

The fair’s 2016 edition attracted 1983 publishing houses from 44 countries, over 22,000 professionals and almost 2.400 journalists as well as around 800,000 visitors.

Romania first participated with a national stand last year, when Romanian writer Norman Manea received the FIL Award. Romanian writers Dan Lungu, Dinu Flamand and Ioana Gruia were also part of Romania’s delegation.
