Minister of Justice Tudorel Toader said on Thursday evening that the concern voiced by the US embassy regarding the proposals changes to justice laws should be backed by reasons.
„I didn’t see the reasons behind this worry. I don’t think that the worry comes from the heads’ mandates length that will change from 3 in 4 years (…) It’s not about the current mandates expansion, because it’s a general constitutional principle that says that a law that changes another law doesn’t change the current mandates (…). I don’t think that the worry comes from the fact that a magistrate retires today, who during his professional activity has an apartment in the center of Bucharest and for which he pays a rent of RON 50 or maximum RON 94. It comes a time for everybody. I don’t think it’s a reason for a worry,” said Toader.
The minister classified as “tough” the term used by the representatives of US Embassy in public while addressing this topic.
The US Embassy is worried about the proposals of the Justice Ministry published on August 23 regarding the judicial system revision and advises all the executive, legal and judicial players from Romania to collaborate to continue the fight against corruption.
