The minister of justice, Florin Iordache, announced that the draft bill regarding the Criminal Code amendments will be up for debate for 30 days starting Monday and will comprise some updated  provisions that had been previously declared unconstitutional.

Regarding the risk that the change of the emergency ordinance of Criminal Code to still be enforced in the case that the some of the articles of the ordinance that was repealed will be declared unconstitutional, he said that the legal framework returned to the situation before the issuing of the government emergency ordinance 13/2017 that was repealed on Sunday.

He also said that the “necessary approvals for the emergency ordinance are taken from the Ministry.”

Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets starting January 31, after the government approved controversial amendments to the Criminal Code. The ordinance was repealed on Sunday, but protesters are now calling for the resignation of the government led by Sorin Grindeanu.
