Metrorex, the operator of the Bucharest subway, is planning a EUR 298.5 million expansion of its forth line to the Straulesti lake area, where a terminal point, a parking lot, a dispatch point and a station will be built. The investment is set to roll out on a four-year period, and will be financed with a loan from the European Investment Bank, money from the state budget and Metrorex’s own sources.
The fourth subway line currently has four stations (Gara de Nord 2, Basarab 2, Grivita, and 1 Mai), while two new others will be functional this July (Pajura and Parc Bazilescu). The new stations are planned as well: Laminorului and Lac Straulesti.
The transport capacity of the line will be of 50,000 people per hour on each direction, and the fourth line will have a total length of 7.8 kilometers and eight stations. Bucharest’s current subway network has a length of 67 kilometers, four lines, and 49 stations.
