The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) has firmly condemned the attack with chemical weapons perpetrated on 4 April on the Syrian people.

The 7 April strike represents a firm reaction to the attrocities left behind by the chemical weapons attack, the MAE said, adding that Romania was solidary with its Alliance and its partners.

Romania supports any effort aimed at ending the Syrian conflict which, in the six years has led to substantial loss of life and, at the same time, had created a pole of instability in the region, as well as terrorism and mass migration.

Romania supports the further identification and implementation of a political settlement of the Syrian crisis, including through a political transition process, led by Syria, based on the relevant resolutions of the Security Council, especially Resolution 2254 of the United Nations Security Council and Communication Geneva (2012). Romania recently reiterated at the Conference in Brussels on supporting the future of Syria and the region, held on 5 April 2017.

No Romanian citizens were injured since the start of the Syrian conflict.

The Romanian Embassy in Damascus has asked the Syrian authorities for information on Romanian citizens in the aftermath of the April 4 attack, and has appointed a team that can offer support to Romanian citizens at any time.
