Romanian president Klaus Iohannis said Wednesday he has signed the decree for appointing Laura Codruta Kovesi for a second term as head of the National Anticorruption Directorate.

Kovesi will continue to lead the DNA for another three years. In his first mandate a handful of high-profile politicians were prosecuted, including Sorin Oprescu, the suspended mayor of Bucharest, and ex-PM Victor Ponta.

The minister of Justice Raluca Pruna had proposed Kovesi’s appointment for a second mandate.

President Iohannis said that the DNA’s results have been “impressive”.

“I am very pleased with the results and with the approach and I am convinced that the DNA will continue its activity with the same strength”, said Iohannis.
