An emergency ordinance approved by the government on amnesty and pardon would be a disaster for Romania,  president Klaus Iohannis said on Thursday, urging PSD leaders to stop this project.

“Such an ordinance, which concerns the amnesty and pardon of some politicians, would eventually be a catastrophe for Romania,” the head of state said when asked by the journalists to comment on the information related to such an ordinance.

The head of state said that if Romania’s main ruling party PSD wants to issue an amnesty ordinance “in order to keep out of prison the delinquent Dragnea” it is an “anti-Romanian approach”.

According to Romanian media sources, PSD prepares an emergency ordinance on amnesty and pardon that could be approved by the government after Christmas.

The President recalled the moment of emergency ordinance 13/2017 (OUG 13), which led to huge protests in early 2017.

Klaus Iohannis considers, referring to the construction of the Unirii Motorway, which will connect Moldova and Transylvania, that it is sad that a law was needed for the government to take the necessary steps.
