Key decision: 18 banks in Romania get additional guarantees for Prima Casa loans

The Ministry of Finance has approved additional guarantees worth RON 500 million that will be used by 18 banks providing housing loans under the Prima Casa program in the country.

“The measures is designed as a reaction to requests from potential beneficiaries of the program and takes into account the significant growing dynamic of volumes within the program,” said the Ministry of Finance in a statement.

The banks that got fresh guarantees are: Alpha Bank, Creditcoop, Banca Românească, Banca Transilvania, Bancpost, Leumi, BCR, BRD, CEC, Credit Agricole, Garanti, ING Bank, Intesa Sanpaolo, Marfin, OTP Bank, Piraeus Bank, Raiffeisen Bank, UniCredit Bank.

Prima Casa has been excluded from the debt discharge law. This initiative has come under heavy criticism from the banking system.
