IT companies in the Western part of Romania will increase the level of salaries by 10 percent on average in 2011, according to the AIMS Salary Map IT Study carried out by AIMS Human Capital. The study focuses exclusively on the R&D area in the Western part of the country.
The average level of the gross monthly salary for a senior Software developer is RON 6,711 while a junior developer wins on average only RON 2,994 per month. However, there are companies that pay better juniors in programming so that their salaries can vary between a minimum level of RON 1,040 and a maximum level of RON 6,060 per month.
The differences are given by competencies but also by different salary policies and the personal capacity of the candidate to negotiate their salaries when they become employed.
The study focused on determining the salaries practiced on the market for 25 specific positions in the IT industry such as software developer, test engineer, hardware design engineer, team leader, project manager. The study included 30 companies in centers in Timisoara, Cluj, Sibiu and Brasov, which had a total number of 6,200 employees. More than 90 percent of these firms were either founded with foreign direct investments or mixed Romanian- foreign investments.
The level of the salaries increases according to the hierarchy. The manager of a department who runs teams of more than 50-100 employees will earn on average 12,127 lei gross salary per month, which is nearly two times more than a senior Team Leader.
Most companies that were included in the study increased salaries in 2010 between 3 and 20 percent. However, the average growth of the salaries was around 10.10 percent.
More than one third of the companies included in the study gave higher tax increases than they initially planned due to the rise in inflation and the competition on the labor market
