Large taxpayers account for 70 percent of the total economic turnover, but represent only 43 percent of taxes and contributions paid to the budget, with the tax burden being virtually much higher for small and medium-sized businesses, Romania’s tax authority ANAF head, Ionut Misa said .
Large taxpayers in Romania have a share in taxes of 43 percent, although they have 70 percent of total turnover. In Germany and France, the big taxpayers have a 75 percent tax rate, “said Ionut Misa, the new president of the National Authority for Tax Administration (ANAF) and former finance minister.
“We will work to increase the share of large taxpayers in total revenue from taxes and social contributions. Now it is 43 percent in Romania while in Germany, France or the UK it is 65-75 percent, “said Ionut Misa.
The 4,500 companies considered as large taxpayers by ANAF on the basis of turnover, assets or number of employees have a share of about 70 percent of the turnover in the economy, ie the sum of the turnover of all companies in Romania, of EUR 275 billion last year. The remaining up to about 400,000 active companies, that is, 395,000 small and medium-sized companies, account for 30 percent of total economic activity but contribute to taxes, taxes and social contributions of 57 percent of ANAF’s total revenues.
ANAF received RON 215 billion (EUR 46 billion) in 2017, 8 percent more than in the previous year, from tax revenues – taxes and social contributions.
Former Finance Minister Ionut Misa is the new president of ANAF after his decision to appoint him, signed by Prime Minister Viorica Dancila, was published in the Official Gazette of March 29, 2018, at the same time as the decision to revoke the position of Mirela Calugareanu.
