Romanian president Klaus Iohannis told the opening event of the Indagra International Fair that farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs expect the state to handle their problems responsibly, being compulsory for Romania to prevent the African swine fever.
”We all want a performance increase in farming, animal breeding and food industry. Farmers and entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector are steadily investing in increasing competitiveness and adapting to market demands and they are waiting for a responsible state to handle problems or emergency situations that fell under the responsibility of the national authorities”, the president said, adding that it was a must for Romania to fight African swine fever, a disease which has recently spread aggressively and fell under control.
“In spite all previous incidents and warnings the situation has found us again unprepared in tackling the worst plague Romanian animal breeders faced in recent years,” the president also said according to a release from the Presidential Administration..
”I hope for the future that this will be an experience leading to responsible actions and decisions so that damages are avoided and budget resources are directed not for compensation but for investments, “Iohannis said.
