Iohannis: Germany is already for many years the first commercial partner of Romania

The president of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, has attended on Monday at Cotroceni Palace a press conference together with the president of Germany, Joachim Gauck, following a private meeting they had in Bucharest.

For Romania, the relationship with Germany has a strategic importance, according to Iohannis. It is based on a long history, both states being partners in the European Union and NATO, added the Romanian president.

“I assured the president Gauck that Romania remains dedicated to the European projects and gives a special importance to the bilateral cooperation for promoting the common interests at EU level. The present challenges that we confront will need the identification of a solid and responsible answer,” says Iohannis.

“Germany is already for many years the first commercial partner of Romania and the third investor in our country and the development potential continues to rise,” he adds.

Moreover he says that he showed that the placement of Romania in the top member states with the highest level of economic growth and the constant consolidation of the trust level of the investments in the offered opportunities on the Romanian market are the elements that make Romania to present a high level of attractiveness for the German investors. Thus, Iohannis together with Gauck will attend on June 21 an economic event with the representatives of some relevant German companies.

“During the discussions from today we discussed also about the strong Romanian-German collaboration in promoting the interests of the persons from German minorities from Romania from cultural and educational point of view,” said Iohannis.
