Internal milk production up in January by 12.4 pct, imports up by 17.2 pct

The Romanian milk production increased in January by 12.4 percent, the imports went up by 17.2 percent, according to the data of the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

 In January the cow milk quantity collected from processing units increased year-on-year 9,021 tones (12.4 percent), up to 81,840 tones.

Increases in production were recorded for cheese products, with 1133 more tonnes produced (+18.2%), acidified milk (yogurt, drinking yogurt, curd and other similar milk products), for which a 2145 tonne rise (+12.1%) was reported, cream, with 245 more tonnes produced (+4.6%), and drinking milk, for which a 381 tonne rise (+1.4%) was reported.

The butter production went down by 182 tones (-17.5 percent).

The quantity of imported raw milk rose by 2502 tonnes (+17.2%) in January 2018 compared to the same month of the previous year.

The quantity of cow’s milk collected by processing units from agricultural holdings and collection centres in January 2018 increased by 4.4% compared to December 2017 and was up 12.4% from January 2017.

The quantity of cow’s milk collected by processing units in January 2018 rose by3459tonnes (+4.4%)compared to the previous month.
