INS: Romania’s inflation rate reached -0.2 pct in August

The Romanian annual inflation rate reached -0.2 percent in August, according to a release of the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The consumption prices, measured by the consumption price index (IPC), were lower by 0.2 percent in August compared with August 2015. The annual rate of consumption prices were 0.3 percent, based on the harmonized index of IPC.

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) forecasted an inflation of 0.4 percent for the end of the third quarter, with an error interval of +/-0.5 percent.

In August, the percentage of merchandise and services that registered a drop in prices, compared with August 2015, is 40.4, while those which had a growth between 0-2.5 percent represent 47.4 percent. The merchandise and services whose prices grew by more than 2.5 percent represent 12.2 percent.

The average rate of consumption prices of the last 12 months (September 2015-August 2016) was 1.8 percent, compared with the previous 12 months, based on the IPC.
