INS maintains Romania’s growth estimate at 5.8 pct in H1

Romania’s statistics body maintains estimations on economic growth to 5.8 percent of GDP in the first semester of the year, compared with the similar period of 2016, on gross series and 5.7 percent on seasonally adjusted series, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Compared with the first quarter of 2017, the GDP in the second quarter of 2017 in real terms was higher by 1.6 percent. Compared with the same semester of 2016, the GDP climbed by 5.9 percent on gross series and 5.7 percent on the series adjusted seasonally.

On the seasonally adjusted series, the GDP estimated for the second quarter of the year was RON 207.6 billion current prices, in growth in real terms, by 1.6 percent compared with the first quarter of 2017 and by 5.7 percent compared with the second semester of 2016.

For the first semester of the year, the estimated GDP was RON 411.3 billion on current prices, a growth in real terms by 5.7 percent compared with the first semester of 2016.

On gross series, the GDP estimated for the second quarter of 2017 was RON 196.6 billion in current prices, in growth in real terms by 5.9 percent compared with the second quarter of 2016. On the first semester of the year, the GDP was RON 360.8 billion current prices, in growth in real terms by 5.9 percent compared with the second quarter of 2016.

More branches of the economy contributed to the GDP growth from the first semester of the year, compared with the first semester of 2016, except for the constructions. More important positive contributions were registered in the industry (1.7 percent), with a share of 23.3 percent to the GDP formation and whose activity volume increased by 7.3 percent; the wholesale and retail; the cars and motors reparation; transport and storage; hotels and restaurants (1.5 percent) with a share of 19.5 percent to the GDP formation and whose activity volume increased by 8.1 percent, communications and information (0.8 percent) with a lower share in GDP formation (6 percent, but which registered a significant growth of the activity volume of 12.7 percent).
