Inflation rate decreased to 2.8 percent in January, says Eurostat

Romania’s annual inflation rate reached a historic low of 2.8 percent last January against 3.2 percent registered in December 2011, according to statistical office Eurostat. Euro area inflation was 2.6 percent in January 2012, down from 2.7 percent in the previous month, while EU inflation stood at 2.9 percent last in January, down from 3 percent last December.

The lowest inflation rates in January were registered in Sweden, Ireland and Malta, with 0.7 percent, 1.3 percent, and 1.5 percent while the highest were in Hungary, Estonia, Poland and Slovakia, with 5.6 percent, 4.7 percent, and 4.1 percent.

The lowest 12 month averages up to January 2012 were registered in Ireland and Sweden with 1.3 percent and Slovenia with 2.1 percent. The highest rate were in Romania, Estonia and the UK with 5.5 percent, 5 percent and 4.4 percent.
