A team from the Internatonal Monetary Fund (IMF) will arrive in Bucharest on Wednesday for a first meeting with the new Government team, according to the Public Finance minister, Viorel Stefan.
„It will be a courtesy meeting, we won’t have any other type of discussions,” said Stefan.
The detachment, formed of a small team, will be led by the head of the IMF mission for Romania, Reza Baqir. The visit will last for a week.
Romania doesn’t have currently any financing agreement with IFM in development, but the institution evaluates the evolution of the Romanian economy annually.
The most recent agreement that expired without a clear conclusion in September 2013, had a value of EUR 2 billion, but the Bucharest authorities didn’t access the funds. It was the 1oth agreement between Romania and IMF from the last 23 years and the third agreement inked by the IMF since the economic crisis.
