The average per capita income was RON 806 and spending reached RON 705 in the second quarter of the year, according to data released today by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The average monthly household income was RON 2,337 down from RON 2,342 in the first quarter of 2010 while the average household spending remained unchanged, at about RON 2,000. Wages represent the most important income source with a national average share of 50.7 percent according to INS.
Urban households had a 36 percent higher income than those in rural areas where agriculture generated 24.7 percent of the income and wages only 29.2 percent. At a national level, consumption represents 72.1 of a household’s income, taxes make 16.3 percent while investment costs (land, house construction or acquisition, shares) amounts only to 1.8 percent.
