The Concordia Hotel in the old town of Bucharest, a historic monument where the Unification of Romanian Principalities was decided in 1859, will be restored in the spring of this year, according to representatives of the Bucharest City Hall.

Since the current administration took office, representatives of the City Hall kept in touch with the owner of this property and offered the necessary technical support to accelerate the procedures required before the restoration works could begin.

A press release by the City Hall states: “At the moment, the owner of the property has completed all adjustments for the property book, and in a maximum of two weeks will also complete the necessary documents to obtain the construction permit so that, in the spring of this year, the restoration can start on the property, which will mainly be a hotel, but will also include conference rooms and events”.

Concordia Hotel is located on Smardan street in the old town, and hosted the historic meeting during the night of January 24, 1859 where the Unification of Romanian Principalities was decided, along with the election of Alexandru Ioan Cuza as ruler of Romanian Country after he had been elected ruler of Moldova.

The hotel was built in 1852 and had 90 rooms. In 1884, a large fire started on Smardan Street and most of Concordia Hotel burned down.
