Greenpeace accuses Hungarian government of concealment on toxicity levels of sludge spill

Environmental organization Greenpeace has announced during a press conference held at the Media Center of the Austrian Parliament that “surprisingly high” levels of arsenic and mercury were found in the red mud spill caused by MAL plant.

The organization warned of the longer term effects that the toxic spill might have, having already killed five people and injured 150 more since it poured into villages in western Hungary on Monday.

Greenpeace therefore criticizes the Hungarian government for concealing information on the toxicity levels of the mud spill and considers that the aluminum company should be asked to offer compensations to the victims and pay damages for the consequences brought upon the environment.
