Google has decided to no longer allow advertising for cryptocurrencies, including initial coin offerings (ICOs), wallets and trading services or advice, according to CNBC.
The decision includes Google’s own websites as well as third-party sites. Earlier this year, Facebook introduced the same policy.
Scott Spencer of Google told CNBC that the company has “seen enough consumer harm or potential for consumer harm that it’s an area we want to approach with extreme caution.”
As part of its annual “trust and safety” ads report, Google says it took down more than 3.2 billion ads in 2017, nearly double than in 2016.
