GfK: Romania’s white goods market up by 15.5 pct in Q2

The market for white goods from Romania grew by 15.5 percent in the second quarter of the year compared with the same period of the last year, reaching EUR 529 million, according to a GfK Temax analysis.

Four out of the seven sectors registered a growth rate of two digits: electronics, big household appliances, small household appliances and telecom, while the photo sector had the biggest drop.

The electronics market amounted EUR 87 million in the second quarter of the year, a growth of 30 percent compared with the same quarter of 2015.

The biggest category of the sector- TVs with flat screen- grew by approximately 34 percent, registering sales of EUR 76 million. The movable boxes had a good performance.

The photo market registered a value of EUR 5 million in the second quarter of the year, with a drop of 18 percent compared with the first quarter of the year.

The big household appliances grew by 31 percent in the second quarter of the year compared with the same period of the last year. The  cooling devices grew by more than 25 percent.

The small household appliances amounted to EUR 36 million in the second quarter of the year, by 23 percent more compared with the second quarter of 2015. All the sectors had an increasing trend. Once more, the sales of hair dressing items contributed to the performance of personal care segment.

The IT market value decreased by almost 14 percent in the second quarter of the year reaching the value of EUR 85 million.

The segment with the biggest decrease on small household appliances is represented by tablets (minus 17 percent). The web cameras, mouses and keyboards are the only categories on an increasing trend.

The smartphone sales, the biggest categories of Telcom market, continued the increasing trend of two digits in the second quarter of the year, by 19 percent.
