George, Erste Group’ digital platform aligned with the PSD2 principles expanded to almost 2 million users and is projected to reach the 16 million customers of the group, on all seven markets where it is present, in including Romania.
The platform, developed by Erste Bank’s fintech startup, is launched today in Solvakia, and will be soon launched in the Czech Republic and in Romania.
In Austria, George is the most modern and popular platform and recorded almost 1.5 million users, representing over one third of all online banking users. In the Czech Republic, where the preliminary launch took place, over 300,000 people are using George.
Erste Group is planning to introduce the centralised online baking platform in all the markets it is present on, including Hungary, Croatia, Serbia. “Our plans for George were clear from the beginning: we did not want to create another internet banking service, we did not just want to modernise old systems. George represents a completely new way of doing banking, conceived for the digital age we live in. We built the platform from zero and we designed it together with our customers – these are the elements that make George a revolutionary platform that million people want to use,” Peter Bosek, Erste Group chief retail officer said.
“Our clients have big expectations: to do banking with us should be as easy and intuitively as placing an order on Amazon or checking a social media account, but with advanced security and full protection of customers’ personal data. This is what we aim with George: it is as if banking is crossing over to social media, while taking very seriously data security and the right to a private life,” Bosek said.
