Gefco estimates 35 percent increase in 2010 turnover in Romania

Gefco Romania, provider of logistics services for manufacturers on the local market, has announced that it has reached a turnover of EUR 22.04 million in the first three quarters of 2010. Thus, the company expects an estimate 35 percent increase in this year’s total turnover, compared to the EUR 22.8 million registered in 2009. Christian Zbylut, Gefco CEO for Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia, announced that the company will open a new office in Bulgaria, to become operational by December 2010.

The opening of an office in Bulgaria was regarded by Zbylut as a necessity for Romania, as well as to Europe, which it will thus connect to Turkey and the Middle East. Romania will position itself as a model to Bulgaria, since the subsidiary has reached maturity, Zbylut added.

Cristophe de Korver (in picture), Gefco Romania managing director, anticipates that the local subsidiary of the company will develop as an industrial cluster to Europe. He also added that Romania may be recovering more slowly from the crisis in the logistics field since it has become more cautious than other countries repeating pre-crisis mistakes.

Romania will also play a key role in Gefco’s Black Sea strategy, due to its geographic positioning and will take part in the CEE development plan. CEE is thus expected to reach a 20 percent growth on a year-by-year basis and to reach a turnover of EUR 1 billion by 2015.

Presently, after five years of experience on the local market, Gefco has two logistics platforms in Romania, one in Arad and one in Bucharest, 71 employees, three auto centers in Mioveni, Curtici and Bucharest. Gefco Romania has a total of 150 clients in strategic areas as automotive, FMCG, 2-wheelers, white goods and electronics.
