With 238 votes in favor and just 1 vote against, Teodor Melescanu was validated in parliament as director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE). He is a former minister of external affairs and minister of defense.

From a total of 463 parliamentarians, only 242 were present at the meeting.

Melescanu took his oath right after he was validated in this new position. His appointment comes after Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, former head of SIE, was named prime-minister of Romania.
