The former deputy governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR), Bogdan Olteau, will remain in preventive arest for another 30 days, according to a decision issued on Monday by judges at Romania’s High Court.

Olteanu is prosecuted in a political corruption case. Prosecutors claim he received a EUR 1 million bribe from controversial businessman Sorin Ovidiu Vintu in 2008. At that time, Olteanu was the head of the Chamber of Deputies. Investigators said that Olteanu also received consultancy services for his political campaign, without paying a dime, due to Vintu’s intervention.

The businessman paid the bribe so that Liviu Mihaiu would be appointed governor of the Danube Delta, something that eventually happened.

The lawer of Olteanu said he will appeal this decision.
