Ford to invest EUR 200 mln in production of new model at Craiova factory, to hire 1,500

Ford will invest an extra EUR 200 million in the production of a new model at the Craiova factory, and will hire 1,500 extra staff, the company announced today.

The new car model is an addition and comes to supplement the range of models produced at the Craiova factory, alongside the SUV EcoSport and the 1.0 EcoBoost engine.

The investment confirms the continuation of the evolution of our range of interesting models produced in Europe and underlines the transformation of the production complex in Craiova” said Steven Armstrong, president and CEO of Ford Europe, Middle East and Africa. “The inclusion of the second vehicle int the production process is a clear proof of the operational flexibility of the Craiova factory and reflects the strong partnerships we have with local providers and community members,” he added.

The total investment Ford made so far totals EUR 1.5 billion since 2008, the year the automaker bought the Craiova factory. With the addition of the 1,500 staff, the factory will count of a total workforce of 5900 employees.
