According to Finance Ministry Viorel Stefan, the new public sector wage bill was necessary, adding he is certain that, starting 1 July, the law will be implemented.

The public sector wage bill is very necessary as a matter of urgency, to give stability to the salary system in the public system in Romania. Today, tue to the legacy that we received, there are contradictory regulations, the regulations are imprecise, there are decisions of the Constituțional Court, of the courts, which made the salary system very unpredictable.

As far as the budget impact is concerned, the Ministry of Finance said the budget limit the law will generate should be between 7.8 percent of the GDP and a maximum of 25.5 percent of budget revenues.

Romanian PM Sorin Grindeanu said on Monday that he new public sector wage bill will be a project taken on by the governing coalition and will be sent as soon as possible, probably this week to Parliament to be debated and adopted.

It is an extremely important law for us. It is in our governing program, as you know, it is a long-awaited measure by all Romanians. To have the necessary force, including in Parliament, will be an initiative, in Parliament, of all deputies and denators that are part of the governing coalition. It will be an initiative of the governing coalition.”
