The new Finance minister, Eugen Teodorovici, said on Monday that he does not exclude the possibility of going back to the progressive income tax, if it is proven to be a better measure for Romania. He also added that the controversial Form 600 could be merged with Form 200.

The progressive tax “will not apply if it’s not better for Romanians. I will never apply something that is challenged by the business environment or by regular taxpayers”, said Teodorovici.

The new minister said that all proposals will be analysed, including the one regarding the introduction of the global tax, which Teodorovici said would not be applied this year, as well as the one regarding Form 600.

“In the case of Form 600, we’ll issue an emergency order to prolong the submission deadline and discuss other options, including merging it with Form 200”, said the minister.

He added that this year no new tax will be introduced and no existing tax will be increased.
