Free Miorita NGO and Mercedes-Benz Financial Services will bring light in the houses of five families in Izvoarele Sucevei village, Suceava County, this month as part of a campaign that reached its third year.

The Izvoarele Sucevei village is located in the north of the country, right on the border with Ukraine. Almost 40 of the houses are connected to the electricity grid. The plans of expansion of the electricity network and connection of houses have been put on hold, because of the lack of money and technical obstacles.

The people’s houses are illuminated by a lamp, a candle or a flashlight. So far, Free Miorita has enlightened four schools, homes of 78 families and two churches in 14 counties in Romania.

“We are heading in 2017 to the third stage of the program of social responsibility assumed by Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Romania together with Free Miorita Association to bring light in villages disadvantaged by location and lack of infrastructure. During the project, started in 2015, Mercedes-Benz Financial Services supports both financially and active installation of necessary equipment for the production of electricity and light, for a total of 12 houses and 30 people, increasing the quality of life for families with children, in spite of the conditions that seem to be from another century, they learn and go to school every day”, says Alin Pietrareanu, Sales & Marketing manager of Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Romania.

“We will install five photovoltaic systems that will give people light and energy for telephone and TV”, says Iulian Anghelută, the ”Light for Romania” campaign coordinator.
