Factoring market exceeded EUR 4.56 billion in 2017, according to a study of the Romanian Factoring Association. The general growth on all financing categories through factoring was 13 percent, considering that the previous year the increase was by 10 percent.

“The highest contribution to the factoring operations came from big companies with turnover of over EUR 50 million, while the contribution of small companies was 25 percent. The figures obtained are motivating for all the market players, considering that it’s the third consecutive year of growth,” says Bogdan Rosu, president of Romanian Factoring Association.

The internal factoring increased from EUR 3.2 billion in 2016 to EUR 3.6 billion in 2017.

“If in 2016 the internal factoring volume increase was EUR 300 million, last year was registered a more consistent growth, of EUR 400 million. The reverse factoring was the star of 2017, with an year-on-year increase by 44 percent, with a record level of EUR 1.2 billion. The most surprising increase was the export factoring, by 20.5 percent, reaching EUR 777 million. This increase exceeds the Romanian exports, of 9.4 percent and was mainly due to the FMCG and metals sectors,” says Rosu.

Regarding the fields  that applied the internal factoring, for the first time constructions are exceeded by FMCG, as well as by IT&C. The positive evolution of FMCG came due to the constant growth of population’ consumption, both in food and non-food sectors. The internal operations financed through factoring were close to EUR 800 million. Overall, if are taken into account the export and import transactions, FMCG exceeded EUR 1 billion.

“The constructions sectors registered a decline for the first time in 4 years, taking into account that the investments level in infrastructure reached a minimum level,” says Rosu.

The overall number of clients who developed factoring operations in 2017 was by 16 percent higher than 2016.
