According to Eurostat, 5.3 percent of the unemployed Romanians have found jobs in the first quarter of the year, compared to data from the last quarter of 2015. However, 80 percent of the jobless Romanians aged 15-74 were still unemployed in the first quarter of this year. There were still 14.7 percent of Romanians into inactivity in the first quarter of the year.
Out of all persons in the European Union (EU) who were unemployed in the fourth quarter 2015, 65.7 percent (13.0 million persons) remained unemployed in the first quarter 2016, while 15.4 percent (3.0 million) moved into employment and 18.9 percent (3.7 million) towards economic inactivity in Q1 2016.
Of all those initially in employment, 96.2 percent (169.7 million persons) remained in employment, while 1.7 percent (2.9 million) of those employed in the fourth quarter 2015 were observed to be unemployed in the first quarter 2016, and 2.2 percent (3.8 million) transitioned into economic inactivity.
Romania had around 568,000 people out of work as of June, with the unemployment rate standing at 6.4 percent.
