European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu approved the modification of the Regional Operational Program (POR) for Romania.

The changes aim at adapting to the current socio-economic context and respond to the need to simplify the program.

”The changes we have approved come just in response to the need to adapt to current realities and will help Romania to make greater use of the funds it allocates. These will have a beneficial effect especially for the environment but will also support projects aimed at improving health infrastructure across the country, ”said Corina Cretu, Regional Policy Commissioner.

According to the decision, the old Operational Program SME Initiative becomes part of the Regional Operational Program, benefiting from a reallocation of over EUR 150 million euros. The new priority axis 15 of the POR, the SME Initiative, will respond to the growing demand for market-guaranteed financial instruments and will contribute to increasing the competitiveness of SMEs in Romania.

At the same time, EUR 72.5 million is now being reallocated to Priority Axis 8 Developing Health and Social Infrastructure to fund the acquisition of ambulances and medical equipment. These investments will ensure better management of medical emergencies in the future, while allowing people to have equal access to healthcare and first aid services.

Between 2014 and 2020, Romania benefits from EU financial support of over EUR 22 billion through Cohesion Policy, of which EUR 6.86 billion is earmarked for the Regional Operational Program (POR).
