The European Commission has asked the US to work together with the five EU member states whose citizens still require visas to enter the United States, as the EC has analysed the progress of the visa liberalisation benchmarks.
Visa reciprocity is a fundamental principle of EU policy on visas and the EC remains fully committed to obtain visa-free travel in the US for all its member states, as a priority objective.
The EC says it will continue talks with the US, in coordination with the five EU member states that still require US visas.
The Commission notes that contact with the US has intensified over the past 12 months, both politically and technically.
The five member states in question are Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Poland and Romania.
