The European Commission has called on Romania to fully transpose in its internal legislation the EU norms regarding limiting emissions for certain polluting substances.
The Directive in question regulates emissions of SO2, NOx and particles in the atmosphere with the purpose of reducing these emissions and the risks for human health and environment they can lead to, as well as establishing norms for monitoring emissions for carbon monoxide.
“Member states have been asked to communicate national measures of transposing this directive in the national legislation by December 19, 2017. Since Romania has not complied with the deadline, the Commission sent a lateness letter in January 2018. Romania has not yet communicated any measures, so the Commission is now sending a motivated notice. If no appropriate response is issued, the Commission can notify the EU Court of Justice about Romania,” the EC’s statement reads.
