The European Commission has called on Romania to transpose EU rules on recognition of professional qualifications. Romania, together with Latvia, now have two months to notify the Commission of the full transposition of the directive and otherwise, the Commission may decide to bring before the Court of Justice of the European Union.
The Directive 2013/55/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 November 2013 amending Directive 2005/36 /EC on the recognition of professional qualifications entered into force on 17 January 2014.
Directive 2013/55 / EU provides a modern EU recognition of professional qualifications that simplify and make quicker recognition of professional qualifications in another country and guarantee compliance with the host country. The Directive had to be transposed into national law by 18 January 2016. However, Latvia and Romania have not yet notified the Commission of full transposition.
