EON: in Romania, boiling Easter eggs uses three days’ worth of solar energy

Boiling and dying the Easter eggs in Romania uses three days’ worth of energy produced by the solar parks in Romania, EON said in a press release.

This is much more than in Germany, for example, which has many more photovoltaic panel systems, therefore it would take only half a day. According to the National Statistics Institute, a Romanian consumes an average of about 267 eggs per year, a little more than the Germans, who consume 233 eggs a year, according to the German Ministry of Food and Agriculture, which means less than one egg per day in both cases.

However, during Easter holidays it is estimated that about three eggs per person will be consumed daily, which means that in total about 60 million eggs a day will be consumed in Romania.

“If all these eggs were dyed at home, a lot of water and energy would be consumed. To boil two liters of water, we consume a quarter kilowatt per hour. “A pot of this capacity is enough to boil and paint 10 eggs, and this is multiplied by 6 million times for the whole country. Based on these assumptions, the Easter preparation of 60 million eggs would consume about 15 million kilowatt hours of electricity as long as they produce together all the solar energy systems in Romania on average in three days,” say the representatives of the energy company.

According to Transelectrica data, Romania has photovoltaic panels with a total installed capacity of 1,360 MW.
