The electricity supplier and distributor Electrica said at this moment an external audit is taking place at Electrica Furnizare, which aims to analyse the transactions with green certificates that were carried out between April and May 2016.

The media reported that this deal were controversial and a report commissioned by board of administration at Electrica Furnizare stated that these transactions could raise legal challenges.

According to HotNews.ro, Electrica Furnizare has acquired 1.6 million green certificates from several companies controlled by EDP Renewables. The deal was worth around EUR 50 million.

Now, Electrica says that some of the employees at Electrica Furnizare might be in conflicts of interest. The media reported that several members of some families hold key positions at the supply arm of the company.

„We strongly reaffirm that Electrica will not make any compromises regarding potential ethical deviations, frauds or any aspects of noncompliance that would create image or commercial damages and would impact the prestige and performance of Electrica Group,” said the company in a statement.

Electrica added that it was the first company that implemented a whistleblowing system. This is an initiative rolled out by the state in energy companies where it has stakes. Any employee in these companies can file anonimously a complaint if he or she knows about any illegal practices in these firms.

The biggest shareholder of Electrica is the Ministry of Energy with a 48.7 percent stake.
