Romanian NGO EFdeN ranked fourth at Solar Decathlon 2018 competition but has been named World Champion of Communication and Double Vice World Champion at the Engineering and Construction Test and Conditional Comfort Test. The Romanian team also won 3rd place at the Sustainability test.

For three other tests in the competition, EFdeN ranked 4th in House Functionality, Energy Efficiency and Electricity Transportation.

The final result and the EFdeN team’s prizes at the Solar Decathlon 2018 represents the best performance in the history of Romania’s participation in this competition.

Solar Decathlon, the world’s most important international solar competition, took place between November 14-29 in Dubai. EFdeN, the Romanian team, competed alongside another 14 teams from 11 countries, including the USA, Australia, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Asian and Middle East countries.

Solar Decathlon Middle East assumed the design and construction of smart, environmentally friendly, solar-friendly homes to adapt to the Middle East climate.

The competition was extremely tough and demanding: out of a total of 21 qualified homes based on the initial project competition, only 18 managed to complete the homes and reach Dubai, and then only 15 of them managed to pass preliminary inspections and actually enter the competition.

The house with which EFdeN participated in the competition is called EFdeN Signature.

The funding sources for the EFdeN Signature House are entirely private, obtained from partnerships with more than 100 commercial companies, and the project is a 100 percent educational and research project run by Romanian students.
