Germany’s Delivery Hero, one of the biggest global food delivery platforms, which operates local player foodpanda, announced the purchase of homegrown delivery app hipMenu.
Launched in 2013, in Cluj-Napoca, the hipMenu platform allows users to order foord from 300 restaurants in Cluj, Bucharest, Oradea and Timisoara. Compared to local competitor foodpanda, it performed better, posting EUR 1,016,323 in revenues, more than foodpanda, which posted EUR 881,380 in 2017.
The move strenghtened Delivery Hero’s position of local market leader, and will allow the company to deliver food from a large array of restaurants in over ten Romanian cities. The platform also became the leader of the online food delivery market in Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara, Oradea, Brasov and Iasi. Together, the revenues of the two brands exceeded fourth times those of the closest ranked player.
“By purchasing hipMenu, Delivery Hero strengthens its position as market leader in Romania, and is reinforcing the promise made to its clients of continuing to offer the most memorable experiences of online food orders,” Gabor Szorad, Delivery Hero’s Central and Eastern European CEO said.
“The hipMenu business recorded a fast development at a local level, and, via its association with Delivery Hero, will benefit from the necessary resources needed to continue its development and to strengthen the position of leader in the cities it is present in,” hipMenu co-founder Dan Klausmeier said.
“We are thrilled to join the Delivery Hero group,” Ciprian Costa, hipMenu co-founder added. “Together we will identify new opportunities for growth and innovation so that we can continue to offer the best services to both hipMenu clients and to our partner restaurants.”
The hipMenu app is currently available in over 15 languages.
