The 2024 World Happiness Report marks once again Finland’s dominance atop the global happiness index for the seventh consecutive year. However, Romania’s position dropped to 32nd place from its 24th position in 2023.

Romania’s overall ranking dropped to 32nd, marking a considerable decline from the previous year. Moreover, in a new feature of this year’s report, separate rankings by age group revealed a notable disparity within Romania. While the country secured the 8th spot for individuals under 30, its ranking plummeted to 48th for those aged 60 and above.

Utilizing data gathered from respondents in over 140 nations, experts compiled rankings of the world’s ‘happiest’ countries. Finland led the pack once again, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, and Israel.

According to the report, the elderly are now significantly happier than the young in countries such as Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Spain. It’s the opposite in Portugal and Greece – where the young are happier than the elderly.

The ranking is based on six factors – social support, income, health, freedom, generosity, and absence of corruption – using data from sources such as the Gallup World Poll survey.

The World Happiness Report, a collaborative effort between Gallup, the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and the WHR’s Editorial Board, provides comprehensive insights into global happiness trends. Access the complete 2024 report here.
